Winter driving returned to the roadways of Northern Colorado Thursday morning — And it turns out Coloradans are a bit rusty when driving in the snow.

Colorado State Police reported four crashes on Northern Colorado stretches of I-25 before 6 a.m. Accidents were reported at exits near Harmony Road, Crossroads Blvd., Johnstown and Berthoud.

CSP is urging drivers to slow down and keep a safe distance from other cars around them.

A winter weather advisory is in place until 3 p.m. in the area and Fort Collins received about a half inch of snow before 6 a.m.

The snow is not expected to stick around for long, with warmer temperatures predicted in upcoming forecasts.

In the meantime, here's some tips for driving in the snow:

1. Stay home - Better safe than sorry

2. Drive SLOW - The roads are icy and slick, keep a safe distance and slow down.

3. Accelerate and Decelerate slowly - Apply the gas slowly to regain traction and avoid skids. Remember, it takes longer to slow down on icy roads.

4. Don't stop going while up a hill - There's nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill once you've stopped. Keep moving is the key to not getting stuck.
