Teddy Bridgewater is headed back to his hometown.

On Monday, Mar. 14, multiple sources including the NFL reported and confirmed that Teddy Bridgwater, former quarterback for the Denver Broncos is in the process of signing a one-year deal worth up to $10 million with the Miami Dolphins.

As per the deal's terms, Bridgwater is expected to pocket a fully guaranteed $6.5 million.

During Bridgewater's most recent stop in Denver, he was able to win a preseason quarterback competition with Drew Lock - who has since been traded to the Seahawks in exchange for Russell Wilson - and perform well in spurts; the NFL says Bridgewater posted five games of 250-plus passing yards with the Broncos, while also missing three games due to injury.

Last season, the Broncos finished 7-10 but they were 7-5 in games Bridgewater started and finished.

Bridgewater To Miami - What For?

In his new role with the Miami Dolphins, Bridgewater will serve as the backup quarterback for Miami's QB1, Tua Tagovailoa.

In the last two seasons, the Miami Dolphins went 13-8 with Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback. The fifth overall pick in the 2020 draft, Tagovailoa has completed 66.2% of his passes with 27 touchdowns and 15 interceptions during his time in Miami.

The NFL says the Dolphins are signing Bridgewater with the goal of improving their insurance behind Tagovailoa. During his time spent in Denver, Bridgewater proved that he can occasionally be an effective quarterback and should be a better option in the event Tagovailoa is again knocked out of action.
