The Who’s Roger Daltrey Confirms Keith Moon’s Invitation To The Olympics
One of the most bizarre stories to pass our way in recent history was confirmed on Thursday. Appearing on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” late night talk show, Who singer Roger Daltrey said that yes, the organizers of the 2012 London Olympics did, in fact, try to get drummer Keith Moon to appear at the Opening Ceremony. Moon died in 1978.
“It is true, and it could only happen in Britain,” Daltrey said. “We are so organized.” Daltrey proceeded to recount the details of the e-mail that manager Bill Curbishley sent back in reply, that Moon currently resides in Golders Green crematorium, but that maybe a seance could help bring him back.
Kimmel then implied that maybe they should go the hologram route, saying that it worked for rapper Tupac at the Coachella festival last month.
Daltrey told Kimmel that the Who were currently “kind of having a very long sabbatical, which seems to be like most of our career.” He also admitted to having a problem with his voice that required surgery. Still, Daltrey was in good spirits, and also told stories about Moon’s habit of destroying hotel rooms.
