WATCH: CSU Rams Game-Winning Layup Over Rival Wyoming

The first battle of the basketball Border War was won in dramatic fashion by Colorado State University on Thursday night (Feb. 4) in Laramie, Wyoming.

CSU guard John Tonje came off the bench to score a game-winning layup with 5.8 seconds left in the 74-72 victory over the Wyoming Cowboys.

Tonje scored a Rams-high 16 points in the win. Shortly before becoming the hero, Wyoming had tied the game with a Marcus Williams 3-pointer with 11 seconds left.

Tonje scored on the next possession. Wyoming had one last chance at a game-winning shot but couldn't connect.

CSU is now 13-4 on the season and will next get a Border War rematch — CSU and Wyoming face off at 4 p.m. Saturday. You can listen to Saturday's game on Power 102.9, home of the Rams or watch on CBS Sports Network.

"It was far from a work of art," CSU coach Niko Medved said in the postgame show.
"We found ways to get stops when we needed it down the stretch."

Rams guard David Roddy added 15 points and eight rebounds in the win. CSU guard Kendle Moore scored 11 points, dished four assists and made a steal in the win.

The Rams are still fighting for a Mountain West regular season title, currently a game behind Boise State and Utah State.

Wyoming is now 10-8 under new coach Jeff Linder, who was hired away from Greeley's University of Northern Colorado in the offseason.
