Weld County Jail Suspends Visits After 23 Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19
The Weld County Jail is no longer allowing personal visitations for its inmates, according to a press release from Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams.
Officials came to the decision on Tuesday (June 9) after 23 inmates tested positive for COVID-19.
All of the positive inmates are asymptomatic.
So far, authorities have tested 392 out of 468 inmates. A second wave of testing will be conducted two weeks from now.
The press released noted that professional visitors, such as defense attorneys, are still allowed in the jail.
The Weld County Jail recently had to enhance its COVID-19 safety measures after a federal judge ruled that the jail was violating its inmates rights by not adequately protecting them from the virus.
The jail has since complied with the judge's orders, although Sheriff Reams said he was "personally disappointed" in the ruling.
