Winter Storm Warning for Front Range – Stock Show Parade Cancelled
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning with heavy snowfall, which is in effect from 2 pm this afternoon (1/4/17) to 11 am on Thursday. Snow will develop late this afternoon and continue through Thursday morning all along the Front Range, especially in the foothills. The snow may be heavy at times overnight.
- Snow accumulations - 8 to 12 inches
- Winds will be 10 to 20 MPH in the morning and 10 to 15 MPH in the afternoon. Visibility will be reduced to less than one quarter mile during periods of heavier snowfall.
- Travel will become hazardous due to snow covered roads and poor visibility.
- If traveling the the high country, be sure to have adequate snow tire and allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
Stock Show Parade Cancelled
Due to the winter storm, the National Western Stock Show has canceled its annual kickoff parade, which was set for Thursday.
The annual Stock Show Parade barbecue lunch will take place, as scheduled, in the atrium of the Wells Fargo Building at 17th Street & Broadway, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The barbecue is open to the public and benefits the 4-H International Youth Group. Lunch tickets are $10.
The 111th National Western Stock Show will open its doors on Saturday, January 7th, at 9am. The 16-day show runs January 7th – January 22nd.

Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association is preparing for the Winter Storm. All PVREA crews and vehicles are on standby and will be ready to be dispatched to restore power if outages occur.
When we learn of weather that can potentially damage equipment and cause power outages, PVREA goes through a storm preparation checklist where we gas up vehicles, load up trucks with parts and review storm preparation with our crews and office staff.
Frontier Airlines Cancels Flights
Frontier Airlines is already canceling flights based off the forecast for this week’s upcoming storm. More than 20 flights into or out of Denver International Airport today have been canceled so far.
Those traveling over the next two days are being allowed waivers to make itinerary changes. The airline says travel must be completed by January 7, 2017.
