Woman Gives Birth to Her Own Granddaughter as Surrogate
A woman acting as a surrogate for her daughter and son-in-law just gave birth to her own granddaughter.
Tracey Thompson, 54, gave birth to baby Kelcey in Plano, Texas, by c-section after her daughter Kelley McKissack, 28, and her husband Aaron, 33, struggled with infertility issues.
Kelcey was born Wednesday weighing 6 pounds and 11 ounces.
"No one could give someone a greater gift ever," Thompson said, adding she didn't think twice about becoming a surrogate for her daughter and son-in-law, who had attempted multiple fertility treatments and suffered 3 miscarriages.
Kelcey's name is a combination of both Kelley and Tracey.
"It takes a mountain of a woman, and I think that's what Tracey is as far as her spirit and her strength," said Dr. Joseph Leveno after delivering the baby.
Thompson had already undergone menopause, but was given the go-ahead from the hospital after stress tests and full evaluations revealed she was in excellent health.
