Boulder City Buildings to Close Tuesday in Response to Shooting

City buildings and facilities in Boulder will close on Tuesday (March 30) in response to last week's mass shooting at King Soopers. 

According to The Denver Channel, city employees, save for essential workers such as first responders, will have the day off in order to allow them time to grieve over the tragedy.

"Our entire community is reeling from this tragedy, including our employees," said Interim City Manager Chris Meschuk in a statement. "Ten lives were lost last week, including a beloved colleague and a city advisory board volunteer, and our staff need space and time to reflect, grieve and process an incredibly challenging week."

Those who are unable to take the day off will receive eight hours of vacation time to use later in the year.

The closure will give employees time to observe the public memorial service of Officer Eric Talley, who was one of the 10 victims killed in the shooting.

Denny Stong, Neven Stanisic, Rikki Olds, Tralona Bartkowiak, Teri Leiker, Suzanne Fountain, Kevin Mahoney, Lynn Murray and Jodi Waters also lost their lives in the incident.
