The Supreme Court removed the federal ban on sports betting back in 2018, which allowed states to individually legalize this form of gambling should they so choose. As of January 2023, thirty states across the country have legalized sports betting.

According to Sportsbook Review, Americans went from wagering $44 billion in 2021 to a whopping $74 billion in 2022 – an increase of 70 percent. With the popularity of sports betting on the rise, certain states have seen a significant increase in residents making wagers on sporting events of all kinds.

Following the Supreme Court's decision, Colorado officially legalized sports betting in November 2019 but it didn't go live until 2020. This granted people in the state the ability to place wagers on games and events both in person and online. But how does the Centennial State compare to other places around the country when it comes to money wagered on sports?

In the states where sports betting is legal, it's required that they report the number of total dollars wagered and gross gaming revenue every month.

Since 2018, New Jersey has reportedly wagered the most amount of money on sports betting, totaling over $31 billion dollars. Based on the data, Nevada has wagered second-most and Pennsylvania has bet the third-most money on sports and events in America.

Colorado has bet the seventh-most money on sports and events. Within two years, Colorado has seen massive growth in sports betting, with a total of $9,144,348,841 dollars wagered during that period of time. Just in 2022 alone, Colorado sports betters wagered $4,111,067,122 dollars on games.
