Garden City’s Bootleggin’ Days Honors Town’s History Next Week

When you think of Northern Colorado, you tend to think of the region's biggest cities: Fort Collins, Loveland, and Greeley. However, there are tons of other towns sprinkled throughout the Front Range that also deserve some recognition.

One of these towns is Garden City. Nestled in between Greeley and Evans, the town was founded in 1938 in response to Greeley's prohibition law.

Now, the town honors its history with Bootleggin' Days, an annual celebration that pays tribute to Garden City's unique roots.

"They were bootleggers back in the day," said the Garden City Police Department's Officer Andrew Brown in our "Tuned In to NoCo" interview. "We've got Bootleggin' Days, which is kind of our town heritage month, to celebrate the creation of Garden City."

This year's event kicks off at 5 p.m. on September 17, when guests ages 21+ can enjoy a free motorcycle bike show, fire dancers, a tattoo contest, food, beer, and more. At 12 p.m. on September 18, guests of all ages are invited to experience another fun-filled day of music, dancing, food, beer, a BMX bike show, and a free car show.

On top of its historical importance, Bootleggin' Days also serves to show residents and visitors alike how Garden City is thriving today.

"We have tons of retailers, from food to auto shops to personal use shops as well, and just tons of opportunities for people to come and explore Garden City," said Officer Brown. "Come on by. It's a great little town. Garden City is a hidden gem."
