High Wind Warning in Effect for Colorado Foothills Today
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning until 5 pm this evening.
Wind gusts today could reach up to 60 mph along the Front Range.
Closer to the base of the Front Range foothills wind gusts to 75 mph are possible while the higher foothills could experience gusts up to 100 mph.
Wind gusts of 75 to 90 MPH are expected in areas prone to high winds, such as along the Peak to Peak Highway, the canyons of Larimer, Boulder, and Jefferson Counties, and the Rocky Flats and Carter Lake areas. The strong winds may produce blowing snow in open areas that could produce slick roads and locally reduces visibility.
Wind gust of 50 to 75 MPH were recorded near the foothills this morning. Gusts as high as 87 MPH were recorded near Gold Hill in the Boulder County Foothills. The winds will likely strengthen later this morning.
