The United States Vice President, Kamala Harris, has announced that she'll be visiting Colorado next week to speak about the COVID-19 relief bill that was passed by Congress earlier this week.

On Wednesday (Mar. 10), House Democrats passed a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, paving the way for President Joe Biden to sign his top legislative priority into law and deliver aid to millions of Americans amid the global pandemic.

The plan includes unemployment aid, direct payments, tax credit expansions, vaccine distribution funds and state and local government relief.

The Denver Channel reported that Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Denver next Tuesday, March 16, to highlight the $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill.

Details pertaining to the visit by VP Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, are still being worked out, as per the report.

President Biden hopes to sign the bill Friday (Mar. 12) after Congress formally sends it to the White House, says CNBC. However, the process - especially for bills as large as this one - could potentially take days.

Some of the major components from the proposed COVID-19 relief bill include:

  • Extending $300 per week jobless aid supplement and programs, making millions more people eligible for unemployment insurance until Sept. 6
  • Sending $1,400 direct payments to most Americans and their dependents
  • Putting about $20 billion into COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing and distribution, along with roughly $50 billion into testing and contact tracing
  • Adding $25 billion in rental and utility assistance and about $10 billion for mortgage aid
  • Offering nearly $30 billion in aid to restaurants
  • Expanding an employee retention tax credit designed to allow companies to keep workers on payroll

In a statement regarding the proposed COVID relief package, President Biden said “This legislation is about giving the backbone of this nation – the essential workers, the working people who built this country, the people who keep this country going – a fighting chance.”
