The City of Loveland Art in Public Places and Loveland's Public Works Department are teaming up to bring a Community Paint Event July 9-10 from 8:30am-4:30pm at Loveland's Recycling Center.

This event is free to the public and allows all ages to participate in painting the new mural entitled "Message in a Bottle" by Artists Jhonattan and Samantha Arango.

This week, "Tuned In to NoCo" got the down-low of how this mural came into being and how you can get out paint with everyone this weekend.

The idea for the mural began with Loveland's Solid Waste Division Crew Supervisor, Andrew Hansen. He says he was inspired by the all of the outdoor art and saw a great opportunity to create a new mural for the community.

"I was looking around town and I saw many pieces of art applied to utility boxes and city buildings and I wondered how could we do something like that at the recycling center...from there it took off immediately and it's been a really fun process over the past several months. We were able to find these two talented artists to come in and put this mural in there. This will make the recycling center look beautiful, inspire people and make Loveland even more enjoyable."

The mural's design will include animals that are currently negatively effected by poor environmental habits and Artist, Jhonattan Arango, says that everyone can participate.

"The community aspect works a lot like paint by numbers. The way it's designed is so everyone can paint. So, everyone from a 2-year-old to the oldest you can think of — if you can hold a brush, you can paint."

Artist, Samantha Arango says the piece will be a positive message of unity and action for the City of Loveland.

"It's very much an awareness project. The message of the mural 'Message in a Bottle' is that by recycling together we can make a difference and all the pieces inside of the bottle are recycled items"

With a total collection of 557 works of art in Loveland, City of Loveland's Public Art and Business Services Manager, Suzanne Janssen, says this mural is a great addition.

"It's really important...The mural will take place at Loveland Recycling Center. It's a 60- foot-long and 6-foot-high concrete barrier and it's going to be made into a thing of beauty and it will inspire people. I think people are going to be really pleased."

The mural "Message in a Bottle" will be completed this August 2022.
