Cameron Peak Fire Officials Brace For Windy Wednesday Conditions
Heavy smoke has returned to the skies of Northern Colorado on Wednesday and officials are bracing for a tough day of firefighting.
West and Southwest winds are expected to reach up to 80 mph in the early morning hours and 48 mph in the afternoon.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued an air quality alert and suggests limiting outdoor activity.
Fire officials took to the Cameron Peak Fire Facebook page on Tuesday evening declaring voluntary evacuations for the following areas:
- Glen Haven
- Glen Haven Retreat
- Storm Mountain
- Palisade Mountain and County Road 43 from Streamside to Storm Mountain Road
The voluntary evacuations are a precaution as Wednesday winds are expected to cause elevated fire activity.
The Cameron Peak Fire has just reached its two month anniversary after sparking on August 13. The Fire has burned 135,519 acres acres during that two month period but luckily fire crews have now reached 56 percent containment, according to the Incident Information System.
