Fort Collins Cow Tests Positive for Rabies
Rabies continues to plague animals in Larimer County.
The Larimer County Department of Health Environment announced in a press release on Tuesday that a cow from rural North Fort Collins recently tested positive for the illness. There have been 28 animals in Larimer County that have been confirmed to have rabies so far in 2019 — the other 27 are skunks.
The number of animals with confirmed bouts of rabies has spiked in recent years. In 2018, there were 45 skunks, six bats and a coyote that tested positive.
Rabies is spread primarily through the saliva of a rabid animal.
The Larimer County Department of Health Environment wants to remind livestock owners to vaccinate their animals for rabies as a precaution.
