Fort Collins Residents Worry About Holiday Twin’s Future
The popular Fort Collins drive-in movie theater just announced its 2017 opening date, and there is no doubt about it -- this city looks forward to it every year. But, could its future be in jeopardy?
A petition surfaced on Change.org earlier today (it appears), asking Fort Collins residents to sign their name in support of 'saving' the drive-in. This petition, it seems, is in no way created by the Holiday Twin, but rather concerned citizens. So, what exactly is the concern all about?
The Change.org petition reads:
Wes Webb, the owner, Is getting older. Hungry Developers barrage him with offers to buy the land. At some point, he has to sell this Treasure of Fort Collins.
We the undersigned, petition the City Of Fort Collins to Provide Funds to purchase, preserve, and purpose the Holiday Twin as a Treasure of Fort Collins. (Read full petition here.)
Last year, following an article from the Coloradoan, we asked 'Would you save the Holiday Twin?' We had many Fort Collins residents reach out to us to share their special memories and love for one of the few drive-in theaters left in Colorado.
We have reached out to Holiday Twin for comment and will update this post if we hear back from the owners.
UPDATE: March 30, 2017
Holiday Twin responded with the following:
In regards to your inquiry about the petition for the Holiday Twin Drive In Theatre, we did not start the petition.
The proposed development, Mountain's Edge, and its progress is available on the city's website.
We plan to open as scheduled for the summer season. We appreciate the support of our fans and look forward to seeing them soon.
Thanks,
Stephanie
