Netflix's newest original miniseries, Unbelievable, is based on horrific crimes committed by Marc O'Leary, who attacked a number of Colorado women, leading up to his arrest in 2011.

The setting of the miniseries, which came to Netflix on September 13, is in Jefferson County, where 'Christopher McCarthy' commits multiple violent crimes against women, but authorities aren't able to link them together. McCarthy, however, is based on real-life serial rapist, Marc O'Leary.

O'Leary was caught and plead guilty to the rapes...and attempted rape all took place in the Colorado area. O'Leary was sentenced to 327 and a half years in prison (the maximum sentence), and was given an additional 62 years in Washington the following year, after he plead guilty to another two rapes. - Cinemablend.com

O'Leary was caught by Stacy Galbraith with Golden Police Department and Edna Hendershot with Westminster Police, CBS 4 reported.

'Investigators said O’Leary planned his attacks, staked out four victims in Colorado, assaulted them repeatedly over several hours and then took methodical steps to make sure no evidence was left behind.' - CBS 4
