While smoke in the Fort Collins area is less visible on Saturday morning, the Cameron Peak Fire, which started Thursday, August 13, is still burning in Larimer County. As of Saturday morning, officials said that it had burned over 5,400 acres.

The fire is 60 miles west of Fort Collins, and 15 miles southwest of Red Feather Lakes. 120 personnel are currently battling the blaze. Highway 14 is closed at Rustic, and mandatory evacuations are in place for the Red Feather area. On Thursday, Larimer County Sheriff asked people to avoid traveling to Poudre Canyon and Red Feather.

Operations Section Chief Trainee Beau Kidd said that firefighters are planning to take defensive action to protect structures on Highway 14, Red Feather Lakes and the Pingree Park area. Up-to-date information is available here.
