33 Homes Have Been Destroyed By Cameron Peak Fire So Far
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office recently conducted more damage assessments of the Cameron Peak Fire and announced in a press release that eight more homes have been destroyed — bringing the total to 33 so far.
An initial Sept. 12 assessment had reported 25 homes had been destroyed. The new damage comes as the Cameron Peak Fire has expanded to become Colorado's third worst fire ever.
The latest destruction includes:
- Highway 14 between the Fish Hatchery and Rustic: Five residential structures and eight other structures were destroyed.
- Manhattan Road area: Two residential structures and five other structures were destroyed while one additional structure sustained major damage.
- Boy Scout Ranch Road area: One residential structure, one other structure, and 17 business structures were destroyed. One business structure belonging to the Shambhala Mountain Center sustained major damage.
All home owners with destruction or damage have been notified. Other structures have endured fire damage but are not considered to be "destroyed."
The Cameron Peak Fire is currently burning over 125,006 acres with 22% containment, according to the Wednesday morning (Sept. 30) official update.
